Lakewood Church pastor Joel Osteen generated a ton of news last week with his statement that Mormons are Christians.
Here’s an interview with CBN later last week right before his “Night of Hope”
Osteen also insists Obama is a Christian. That fallacy was cleared up back in 2008 by conservative columnist Cal Thomas:
Some insight into Obama’s “Christianity” comes from an interview he gave in 2004 to Chicago Sun-Times religion editor Cathleen Falsani for her book, “The God Factor: Inside the Spiritual Lives of Public People.”
“I’m rooted in the Christian tradition,” said Obama. He then adds something most Christians will see as universalism: “I believe there are many paths to the same place, and that is a belief that there is a higher power, a belief that we are connected as a people.”

HeatherMormons are not Christians in the truest sense of the faith. They do not believe in the main tenets of orthodox Christianity — in who Jesus is (our Lord and Savior the only begotten Son of God); what he came to do (to pay the full price for our sins by his atoning death on the cross because he was 100% perfect and thus could pay the cost), and the ultimate result (those who believe on him have eternal life with Him and the Father in heaven after death, and a new birth and new relationship with him now, including the indwelling of the Holy Spirit). Whilst many Mormons live fine, upstanding lives in society, and appear, ON THE SURFACE, to be much like Christians in terms of their actions and morality, they are not Christians.

UliMy mother tongue is not english but I just watched the video and he doesn’t say that mormons are Christian any time! The media is feeding religious people with hate and division. We should not judge people based on their faith , we should not judge people at all. Poor Jesus, he never started a religion. Please America stop hate the different!

Cyndy WarnierI agree with Heather that the Mormon religion itself is not Christian and indeed a “wolf in sheep’s clothing.” However, living in Arizona I know many Mormons–who know less about the foundation of their religion than many ex-Mormons! They do not get involved in temple rituals, etc. I have had many profess to me that Jesus Christ is their Lord and Savior and they believe in him for salvation. I have others who confess that with the additions of the Mormon tenets. With that in mind, I am careful to not paint a broad brush on these people; however, we must stand up for Christianity and this is a cult that does not profess the Trinity; that believes God was actually born of human parents from the planet Moroni, that baptizes the dead, and literally controls their people into faith in a variety of ways which indeed suppresses grace. They are a financial giant in the U.S. and the world but we must not let that keep us from telling the truth and confronting them with an explanation of these tenets of their faith and how the Book of Mormon has changed/been re-written time and time again to cover the lies of Joseph Smith–that we must be bold to bring to the surface. For those Mormons who love Jesus, we come alongside with faith, prayer, and a spirit of love and sharing. Thus we plant the seed and let the Holy Spirit work the power that only the Holy Spirit has!! AMEN.

Cyndy WarnierHowever–I forgot to say this, Joel you must be careful of your broad brush!! Get back into your Bible, then speak the truth in love.

Don BarkerJoel Osteen himself is a poor example of a Christian pastor. He is far too liberal and fails to preach against sin and toward redemption. For him to make the statement that Mormons are Christians shows his lack of knowledge and/or his willingness to ignore the basic tenets of Mormonism as compared to true Christianity.

Shamir RoshanInteresting entertainment between this Walt and Osteen.
When any one views these things you ought to remember and realize that this is not the whole story of what all transpired in this particular conversation or discussion between these two men – so do not accept everything as reality or truth.
From what I listened to it seems Walt WhatsHisName (I think I heard Osteen call his name Walt) put the question to Osteen (this is what I heard as the base question): Is a man’s religious practice or personal faith an important ingredient as an agent of the government to rule and judge in the USA?
Osteen seemed to hedge around its answer and never really did address the question directly. Mr. Osteen did say some things about what he personally believed but then, he was playing the game with the host and trying to remain neutral so as not to offend any one – just being politically correct and socially acceptable.
For myself, I do believe that a person’s religious beliefs and its doctrines and culture are very important factors that can make or break any person who is in authority. I am speaking of religion not ones personal faith in God as The Messiah and Redeemer Kinsman, whose Name is Jesus.
Religion will be based and biased in either Good or Evil, Compassion or Hate, Bigotry or Acceptance and one should rememeber that religion can and will change from man to man depending on where that person has chosen to place their own trust, belief and faith – whether it is in themselves, things, places or persons.
Comparing Obama with Romney as “men” and “authority figures” I must say that Romney shows himself to be more of a man of his word and honor than Obama.
President Obama has proved himself to be of a diabolical intent even before he was elected to the office of President, just in the words he has spoken publically to people – go back and look at the record. He has said from before how he was going to change America, and from the fact of record that even at his inauguration he refused to swear his oath of office upon The Bible (which every president since George Washington swore on) up to his refusal to honor our national flag by putting his hand on his heart when the national pledge of allegence or anthem is given to the very audacity and disrespect he has shown before every nation when he has bad mouthed and degraded the USA and our citizens with his words against us – I just cannot see how the man still remains in the presidency.
I cannot say Romney will be much better but, I have not heard or seen him conducting covert operations to undermind America’s honor nor has he given any indication that he wants to destroy our nation’s roots and foundations either…albeit things generally do not go the way any elected officer says he or she wanted once they are in it – not even in loving marriages. One main thing I think Romney has going for him is however, he does appear to stick by his guns, and he has shown himself to be a wise and sensible business man and a fair politician. ONly bad thing I can say about him right now is it is a shame he took part in the mudslinging and back-biting that took place in the Republican party in the battle for the whitehouse votes. Made me feel ashamed to be an American…but, then again President Obama and his wife’s behaviour eclispes anything else any other American politician or business person might do, so far.

Yulanda K. JonesI saw the Fox News interview where Joel Osteen made the “Mormon” statement. He actually did not answer the question. What he said was that he goes by what people say and that Mitt Romney, who says he is a Morman also says he is a follower of Christ and that Jesus is His Savior. Joel answered correctly. He just did not go further, which was the right thing. It was not the proper time or forum, nor was it his place in that forum to dispute Romney. Just as its not our place to say Pres. Obama is not Christian when he says he is. As far as statements made, I can go to any church at any time and find the absolute most ignorant, nonbiblical statements, ever!
Thank You
