I’m thinking about creating an Easter Sunrise Service Guide (like my Christmas Eve and Easter guides.) But do churches even have a sunrise service anymore?

We have a “sunrise” service at 9AM. It’s usually around 30 minutes long and features lots of traditional easter hymns we’ve either arranged for praise band ourselves or gotten from others – we did your Christ Arose last year and it totally rocked! I’m always looking for creative ideas for it. Then we have breakfast together and the main service, which is contemporary, at 10:30. Most of our people will attend both services – I think we had 165 last year.

I will never forget the year my family came to see me on Easter. My wife and children came from Ft Polk, LA to Ft Leavenworth, KS where I had been stationed as a geographic bachelor. My daughters came in spring dresses, light sweaters and sandals and it SNOWED during the Easter SUNRISE, OUTDOOR service, which was on metal, folding chairs! The Chaplain wore a Russian, fur hat that looked like a big, brownish blonde wig. We made it through the first hymn–then inside to warm up. That was the last Easter Sunrise Service we have attended.

We have a 6 am service ( the only free time the vicar has on that day) on the polo field giving best east visibility, then back to the vicarage for bacon butties and tea – works every time!!!

We have a 6:30 sunrise service in the chapel that is traditional with organ/piano/strings. The other 4 Easter services (8:00, 9:30 11:00 and 6:00p) are in the Sanctuary and they are identical contemporary with an eclectic mix of praise and worship with hymn arrangements for band, vocal team and choir.

We can barely get people to a regular service on time. We are pretty non-traditional in most respects.

Yes….6:30AM, outside at the picnic pavilion to actually watch the sun rise – imagine that! :)

Yes – it is very much anticipated. Our Sunrise Service begins at 7 a.m., and is followed by our Easter Breakfast which is prepared and served (and cleaned up by) the United Methodist Men. The Service itself is put together by our Christian Education Department, with participants in ages ranging from 2 to 85+! Our normal 9 a.m. service is the more traditional and follows the breakfast. There are many who come for the Sunrise Service and stay through the 9 a.m. Service.

We will be on the local hill at 5:30am for 5:47 sun hope. Always something special as the pray for towns below/around us.

Yes we have had great Sunrise services in the graveyard each year, as close to the actual sunrise time as possible. It is always cold but very heartwarming. In the past, I have had trumpets and other instruments or sometimes a keyboard, but no longer have anyone to play. I need a new idea for this year. Hard to get people to sing, 1 because it’s so early and 2 cause they are cold, the young people who usually help sing have stayed up all night and are fixing breakfast for afterwards. Would love some new ideas to make this more special.
