Renewing Worship has taken us on quite the journey in their 6-part series of Mentoring Worship Leaders to Become Mentoring Worship Leaders, and alas, we finally come to the end. The big conclusion on worship leading? No amount of natural talent or fancy degrees can fully prepare you for this rollercoaster. The simple secret to any great leader’s success is in having a great mentor. Don’t forget the help that got you there, and don’t forget to help the ones trying to get there.
There are three arenas veteran worship leaders should be spending time in to help the next generation:
Academia: Veteran worship leaders should offer their real-world experience to academic programs, filling the gap between theory and practice.
Local or Regional Churches: Seasoned leaders should seek out and mentor novice worship leaders in nearby churches, persisting until they find a willing protégé.
Your Church: Look within your own congregation for potential future worship leaders and invest in their growth through one-on-one or group mentoring.
